About St. Rose of Lima School…
- We are "Child Focused and Spirit Driven" as we provide a Catholic Based Education to students from 12 different school districts in York and Adams County.
- Our school was founded in 1919 by the Sisters of St. Joseph. The first school building was on the corner of Market and Richland Avenue. The school later moved to W. King Street, the old York Catholic High School. In 2001, the school moved to its present location in Thomasville.
- The curriculum followed by the school is the same followed by all Catholic Schools in the Diocese and is aligned with State and/or National Standards. The diocesan web site is www.hbgdiocese.org the elementary curriculum is located here.
- We offer a Spanish curriculum for pre-k - 6th grades.
- Our enrichment program is for students K-6th grades and has included subjects such as drama, science, nutrition, cultural awareness, newspaper, rhythm band and art.
- Advancing Science from Gettysburg College has played an integral part in providing equipment and supplemental science instruction.
- We host a summer Science camp open to our parish.
- We have extracurricular activities such as Tai-Kwan-do, cheerleading, and various youth sports such as soccer and basketball.
- We offer choir and instrumental music instruction.
- We have all day pre-K and all day kindergarten.
- Our staff nurtures the spiritual, academic, social, and physical development of our students in an environment that is distinctly marked by the values of our Catholic faith; however we welcome students from all faiths.
- Our students witness their faith through various service projects. The leadership for service stems from our Student Council. We have collected food for the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry, participated in Make-A-Difference Day for 7 years making and distributing over 2,000 Kids-care-kits, collected soup for the Super Bowl, toys for needy children and families, and continue to collect funds for Holy Child Association for children globally.
Other School Facts about St. Rose…
- The St. Rose of Lima School receives funds for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania under Acts 90 and 195. These funds are used to purchase textbooks and instructional materials.
- Several low income families receive tuition assistance through the Neumann Foundation. This foundation is funded by the EITC opportunities made available by the legislature.
- We also receive funds from the federal government under a number of different programs such as Title 1, Title 2, Title 5, and Safe and Drug Free Schools. These funds allow us to offer programs that assist our students, teachers, and families.
- All of our classroom teachers have appropriate Pennsylvania certification and pursue further education by completing the requirements of Act 48. Several are in the process, or have completed, their studies for a Masters Degree in Education.
- The Lincoln Intermediate Unit provides Speech Clinician, Guidance, Remedial Math and Reading, and Gifted services to the students in our school.
- Students in our school our offered a breakfast and lunch program that is subsidized in accord with the National School Lunch Program. Students can qualify for free or reduced breakfast and lunch based on their family income. We currently serve approximately 12 students in the Free or Reduced program.
- Our families come from a diverse background and educational level. Many of our parents are well educated with nearly 60% having at least a Bachelors degree. Our families also buck the national, state and local trend of high percentages of one parent families. Currently, 88% of our students live in a 2 parent home with both biological and adoptive parents. The unemployment rate of our parents is less than 1%.
- Our graduates are very successful after their experiences at St. Rose. We have as alumni several doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, Religious Sisters, and Priests. We are proud of the accomplishments of our past and present students.
