Bio: After working as a computer programmer for 5 years after college, I had the privilege of staying home with my daughter and son for 10 years. When my youngest child started Kindergarten at St. Rose, I obtained a guest teaching certificate from the State of Pennsylvania. I have been a substitute teacher at St. Rose, West York, Central and Northeastern for the past 12 years. Teaching computers at St. Rose has given me an outlet for both my art degree and my computer programming experience. The younger grades illustrate animated story books in PowerPoint, create cards and calendars in Publisher, and learn basic typing skills in Word. The older grades use analytical thinking to build the skills necessary to create computer programs. 4th grade focuses on thinking like a “computer user” while creating interactive games in Excel and PowerPoint. 5th grade focuses on thinking like a “computer programmer” while coding in Visual Basic and HTML. All the projects in the computer lab encourage a wide range of individual interpretation. My goal is to teach students how to solve problems with creative solutions or in other words - think like engineers.
