Thank you to all the families who participated in our most recent school fundraisers — the Ignatius Virtual Book Fair and the Mother’s Day Flower Sale. Together, we raised over $1500, which will go directly toward supporting our general fund. We are so grateful for your continued generosity and constant support of our wonderful school!

Flags for Veterans

Once again, St. Rose of Lima Elementary School is participating in the placing of flags on the graves of our veterans during the week leading up to Memorial Day. This will take place at Holy Savior Cemetery. If you are interested in participating in this wonderful event, please contact the Main Office or email Mrs. Johnston directly at sjohnston@stroseschoolpa.org . The flags will be distributed to families on Friday, May 15, 2026. Placement on the gravesites will be the week of May 17, 2026 through May 24, 2026.

National Anthem at The York Revolution - May 15!!

On Friday, May 15, 2026, the students of St Rose of Lima have a wonderful opportunity - they will be singing the National Anthem at the York Revolutions game! Come out and see our wonderful students sing the National Anthem and our amazing York Revs play!

Spring Concert

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 6:30 PM, St. Rose of Lima will host our annual Spring Concert and Art Show. This concert will highlight the musical talents of our school band, the singing talents of our students in grades 4-6, the dance moves of the dance club, and the artwork of all students. A Concert Preview will take place during the day at 1:30 PM. We hope you will join us for one of our performances!

Spirit Wear is Back until May 15!!

St Rose of Lima is happy to partner with 2theTee for spiritwear. Click on this link https://stroseoflimepe.itemorder.com/shop/home/ to view all items available or go to our website or Facebook page. These items are to be worn as spiritwear only - they may not be substituted as part of the uniform. The St Rose of Lima store will be open from April 1, 2026 through April 30, 2026. Once the store closes, all items will be processed and sent to the school for distribution. All items will be received mid to late May. We hope you will purchase some spiritwear and show your St Rose of Lima spirit!!

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Performance

The time has come for our Performing Stars to showcase their talents! There will be two performances of Willy Wonka on Friday, May 22th at 1:15PM and at 6:00 PM. Tickets will be available to purchase the day of the performances. All tickets will be $5.00. Please contact the office with any questions. We hope to see you there!

Field Day

Field Day is right around the corner! The date is Friday, May 15, 2026 . If you are interested in volunteering for this event, you must have your Diocesecan clearances. Please reach out to Mrs. Molly Raetz via email at mraetz@stroseschoolpa.org .

Sixth Grade Sending Forth Ceremony

On Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 4:00 PM, our sixth grade class will have their Sending Forth Ceremony. The Sending Forth Ceremony will begin with a mass celebrated by Father Celestine, followed by the awarding of certificates. Immediately afterward, we will host a reception in the Church Hall. This will provide families with an opportunity to take photos, socialize with one another, and view the sixth grade slideshow.

All parents are encouraged to submit photos of their student from their time at St Rose of Lima Elementary to Mr. Robert High at rhigh@stroseschoolpa.org by Friday, May 15, 2026 . These photos will be included in the sixth grade slideshow. Please note that photos submitted after this date cannot be guaranteed inclusion in the slideshow.

Van Transportation for Next Year 2026-2027

In March, Mrs Raetz emailed transportation papers for those families who use our vans/buses to transport their children to and from school. These papers were to be completed and returned to Mrs Raetz no later than May 1, 2026. If you plan to use van/bus transportation for your child/children next year, please return your completed forms to Mrs Raetz no later than next Friday. Remember - transportation is only for our students in grades K-6. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Counselor’s Corner

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Spring and has been able to get outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather we’ve had on occasion over the last couple weeks! (Minus the pollen, of course!)

We have been covering a variety of topics in our classroom lessons as we move into Spring. This can be an exciting, but also challenging time when it comes to getting along and working through differences. Sometimes those differences can lead to conflicts or feelings of self-doubt or lower self-esteem, so in some of our lessons, I’ve been trying to give students ways to manage these challenges. Since April is National Career Awareness month, we have also been covering topics such as Community Helpers, Multiple Intelligences, and matching skills and Interests to possible careers.

In Kindergarten, we talked about being proud of our differences and what makes us unique and special with the story “I Want Your Moo" by Marcella Bakur-Weiner and a coloring activity. We also had our Community Helpers and Summer Safety lessons. Mrs. Kipple’s class learned about the importance of “bouncing back” and being resilient with the story "I Got This" by Julia Cook and Michelle Borba, followed by a lesson and activity to review Community Helpers and how they help things run more smoothly where we live. The students also completed a Summer Fun/Summer Safety packet.

Second grade students created a Self Esteem bouquet about what makes them unique and displayed it in the hallway. They followed that lesson up with a lesson about What a career is, needs and wants, and talked about what they might want to do when they grow up. Mrs. Smith’s students made an “I Message” brochure to give them more practice with what to say when they have a conflict with someone. They also had a lesson about Careers and needs vs. wants. Finally, this week, we covered ways to stay safe this summer.

Mrs. Yinger’s students learned how to resolve conflicts using “I Messages,” learned the importance of connecting their interests to their future job or career, and reviewed making responsible choices. Fifth graders made a Conflict Resolution graphic organizer with 8 different strategies to resolve conflicts. They also learned about what kinds of things they are interested in, and how they can connect that to a future career. This week, the class had a lesson on internet and social media safety.

In sixth grade, we wrapped up learning about SMART goals, and had a two-part lesson about Multiple Intelligences, how they can choose careers related to their interests, and why it’s important to connect the two. Mrs. Fisher also shared this Bureau of Labor and Statistics website we talked about in class on her Google Classroom in case you or your student would like to learn more. This week we had a lesson on internet and social media safety.

Virtue of Justice Recipients

During the month of April, students will focus on the Virtue of Justice. Justice teaches them to respect others, cultivate fairness, and act responsibly, laying the foundation for moral, social, and emotional development. It helps them understand rights and duties, fosters empathy and promotes giving of oneself. Students will learn about saints who demonstrated the Virtue of Justice: St Anthony of Padua, St. Katharine Drexel, and St Thomas More. Holy Sprouts is this weekend!!

In honor of St Catherine of Siena’s upcoming feast day, join us in creating bags for the homeless. Some supplies will be provided, but if you are able to bring anything please let us know. We are happy to have older children join us this day to help assemble the bags. This is our first time asking for donations for an activity and we truly appreciate you help in serving our community together. Meet in the Parish Center bottom floor at 10:30 AM on Sunday, April 26, 2026! Can’t wait to see you there!

¡Sundaes de la Divina Misericordia de Holy Sprouts este domingo!

Este domingo organizaremos nuestros Sundaes de la Divina Misericordia de Holy Sprouts, inmediatamente después de la Misa de las 9:30 a. m., en el patio de la Iglesia Santa Rosa de Lima (sujeto a las condiciones climáticas). Este evento está dirigido a niños de 1 a 7 años. Luego, regresen para unirse a nuestra comunidad parroquial en una celebración especial de la Divina Misericordia, que incluirá cantos a cargo de los estudiantes de Santa Rosa de Lima, a las 3:00 p. m. No se requiere inscripción ni tiene costo alguno. ¡Esperamos verlos allí!

Noche de cine de primavera — Viernes, 17 de abril a las 7:00 p. m.

Acompáñenos en la noche de cine de primavera en St. Rose. Proyectaremos la película *David*, una historia animada sobre el viaje bíblico de David, un joven pastor que se convierte en un valeroso guerrero y rey ungido. Se recomienda a las familias traer sillas de playa o de camping, o bien toallas, para sentarse. La HSA ofrecerá refrigerios y bebidas durante la película. ¡Esperamos verlos allí!

La Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima considera que sus voluntarios son invaluables. Gracias a la generosidad de los voluntarios, la escuela puede ofrecer mayor atención, un trato más individualizado y más programas a todos los estudiantes. Los voluntarios pueden prestar asistencia en la biblioteca, supervisar la hora del almuerzo y el recreo al aire libre, agilizar las filas del comedor, leer a los estudiantes y con ellos, guiar actividades independientes, ayudar con proyectos especiales, etc. Otros colaboran desde casa realizando investigaciones, recortando materiales, haciendo llamadas telefónicas o trabajando en comités de marketing y desarrollo, tecnología, entre otros. Unos padres involucrados y solidarios constituyen la columna vertebral del éxito de cualquier escuela.

Para garantizar la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, todos los voluntarios deben cumplir con el Programa Diocesano de Protección de la Juventud. Este año, los St Rose Stars presentarán *Willy Wonka y la fábrica de chocolate*. Los estudiantes han estado trabajando arduamente para perfeccionar sus diálogos, y el equipo de tramoya se esfuerza por cumplir con sus marcas y el manejo de la utilería. Marquen sus calendarios con estas fechas importantes: jueves 22 de mayo, a la 1:15 p. m. y a las 6:00 p. m. Próximamente se darán a conocer más detalles. ¡¡Esperamos verlos en el espectáculo!!

La virtud de la justicia

Durante el mes de abril, los estudiantes se centrarán en la virtud de la justicia. La justicia les enseña a respetar a los demás, a cultivar la equidad y a actuar con responsabilidad, sentando así las bases para su desarrollo moral, social y emocional. Les ayuda a comprender sus derechos y deberes, fomenta la empatía y promueve la entrega personal. Los estudiantes aprenderán sobre santos que ejemplificaron la virtud de la justicia: San Antonio de Padua, Santa Katharine Drexel y Santo Tomás Moro.

Banderas para los veteranos

Una vez más, la Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima participa en la colocación de banderas sobre las tumbas de nuestros veteranos durante la semana previa al Día de los Caídos (Memorial Day). Esta actividad tendrá lugar en el Cementerio Holy Savior. Ceremonia de Despedida de Sexto Grado

El domingo 31 de mayo de 2026, a las 4:00 p. m., nuestra clase de sexto grado celebrará su Ceremonia de Despedida. La ceremonia comenzará con una misa oficiada por el Padre Celestine, seguida de la entrega de certificados. Inmediatamente después, ofreceremos una recepción en el Salón Parroquial. Este evento brindará a las familias la oportunidad de tomar fotografías, socializar entre sí y ver la presentación de diapositivas de sexto grado.

Holy Sprouts Divine Mercy Ice Cream Sundaes this Sunday!

This Sunday we are hosting our Holy Sprouts Divine Mercy Sundaes immediately following the 9:30 AM mass in the St Rose of Lima Church courtyard (weather dependent). This event is for children ages 1-7. Then come back to join our parish community for a special Divine Mercy Celebration, including singing from our St Rose of Lima students at 3:00 PM. There is no registration and no fee. Hope to see you there!

Would you like to Volunteer? Here’s how!

St. Rose of Lima Elementary School considers its volunteers invaluable. Through the generosity of volunteers, the school can offer more attention, individualization, and programs to all students. Volunteers can assist in the library, supervise lunch, outdoor recess, speed up lunch lines, read to and with students, guide independent activities, help with special projects, etc. Others help at home with researching, cutting, phone calls, work on committees for marketing and development, technology, and so forth. Involved and supportive parents are the backbone of any school’s success.

To ensure the safety of our students, all volunteers must comply with the Diocesan Youth Protection Program. Full details of the program can be found at www.hbgdiocese.org . These details can also be found on the church website at www.saintroseoflimayork.org or contact the school office.

All clearances need to be returned into the school office and must be within the current year to accompany the volunteer badge application. Computers are available at the school for those without internet access and want to pursue seeking their clearances. THIS INCLUDES VOLUNTEERING FOR FIELD DAY.

Our Joe Corbi fundraiser was a huge success thanks to all of our families who participated! We tripled the number of orders we originally set for our goal - way to go!! The Joe Corbi orders will be delivered to school on Thursday, April 16, 2026. All orders must be picked up on Thursday, April 16, 2026 between 12:00 noon and 4:00 PM. We are not able to store the kits for you here at school and all items must remain frozen. Please make arrangements to have your orders picked up promptly. Again - we thank you for your incredible support of our school through our fundraisers!

Nuestro manual establece que utilizamos el uniforme de invierno hasta el 1 de abril de 2026. Dado que esa fecha coincide con el primer día de las vacaciones de Pascua, el uso del uniforme de verano comenzará a nuestro regreso de las vacaciones, el 7 de abril de 2026.

¡Acompáñenos en nuestro evento especial «Almuerzo con seres queridos» el jueves 9 de abril de 2026! Esta entrañable tradición invita a padres, abuelos e invitados especiales a compartir una comida con nuestros estudiantes durante la jornada escolar. Es una oportunidad maravillosa para celebrar el regalo de la familia, fortalecer nuestra comunidad escolar y crear juntos recuerdos perdurables.

Los invitados pueden traer su propio almuerzo o disfrutar de una comida proporcionada por la escuela. Cada encuentro comenzará con una breve oración, como reflejo de nuestra gratitud por las bendiciones de la fe, la familia y la convivencia. Last Day to Re-register for the 2026-2027 School Year/Financial Aid

Registration is filling up fast. All families at St Rose of Lima are required to file for financial assistance, work with our EITC program, or both in order to receive ANY discounts in tuition. Our school code is 20621. The financial aid link for the 2026-2027 school year through Simple Tuition Solutions opened for parents on February 2, 2026. Spring Movie Night - Friday, April 17th at 7:00 pm

Join us for the spring movie night at St. Rose. We will be watching the movie "David", an animated story about the biblical journey of David, a shepherd boy who becomes a courageous warrior and anointed king. Families should bring beach/camping chairs or towels to sit on. The HSA will be providing snacks and drinks during the movie. We hope to see you there!

Holy Sprouts Easter Egg Hunt this Sunday!

This Sunday we are hosting our Holy Sprouts Easter Egg Hunt immediately following the 9:30 AM mass at St Rose of Lima Parish Center. Children ages 1-7 are able to bring a basket and collect Easter Eggs in the courtyard of the church. There is no registration and no fee. Hope to see you there!

April 1 - Summer Uniforms Begin

Our handbook states that we are in winter uniform until April 1, 2026. That is our first day of Easter Break, so summer uniforms will begin when we return from break on April 7, 2026.

Lunch with Loved Ones is Coming!

Join us for our special Lunch with Loved Ones event on Thursday, April 9, 2026! This cherished tradition invites parents, grandparents, and special guests to share a meal with our students during the school day. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the gift of family, strengthen our school community, and create lasting memories together.

Guests are welcome to bring lunch or enjoy a meal provided by the school. Each gathering will begin with a brief prayer, reflecting our gratitude for the blessings of faith, family, and fellowship. PreK lunch is at 11:00 AM, Grades K-2 have lunch from 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM, and grades 3-6 have lunch from 12:10 PM - 12:50 PM.

During Holy Week, our students in grades 4–6 will present a variety of beautiful religious performances that reflect the meaning and significance of this sacred time. All are welcome to attend and support our students as they share their talents and faith with our community.

Colecta de biberones

Una vez más, la escuela St. Rose of Lima se asocia con el Women’s Care Center de York. Cada estudiante de St. Rose recibirá un biberón. El rincón del consejero escolar

¡Qué patrón climático tan extraño hemos tenido durante las últimas semanas! Creo que incluso logramos ver las cuatro estaciones en un lapso de 24 horas, ¡seguido de una salida anticipada que no tuvo nada que ver con la nieve! Esperemos que el resto de la primavera transcurra sin contratiempos.

Al igual que el clima, nuestras lecciones en el aula han sido muy variadas y hemos abarcado una amplia gama de temas. En el nivel de Kínder, los estudiantes han recibido lecciones sobre cómo ser un buen amigo y sobre la mentalidad de crecimiento, utilizando el cuento *Beautiful Oops*.

La clase de la Sra. Kipple tuvo su lección sobre la "Sopa de la Amistad" y trabajó en cómo manejar los altibajos de la amistad con el cuento *Rita and Ralph's Rotten Day*. También aprendieron sobre la importancia de pensar antes de hablar, mediante una historia social y una actividad titulada "Piénsalo o dilo" (*Think it or Say it*).

Los estudiantes de segundo grado aprendieron sobre los buenos modales con el cuento *Do Unto Otters*, y sobre qué pueden hacer cuando tienen un mal día, a través de la historia *Alexander’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day*.

La clase de la Sra. Smith recibió una lección sobre cómo ser un buen amigo y elaboró un cartel titulado «Las claves para ser un buen amigo». Dado que recientemente fue el cumpleaños del Dr. Seuss, vieron el corto *The Zax* y aprendieron a «discutir de manera justa» mediante el uso de estrategias de resolución de conflictos. Esta semana leyeron el cuento «Cee Cee Dee» y comenzaron una lección de dos partes sobre la toma de buenas decisiones.

Los alumnos de cuarto grado concluyeron su unidad sobre la «mentalidad de crecimiento» (Growth Mindset) con una lección acerca del pensamiento positivo y el diálogo interno positivo, además de una actividad de repaso para cerrar el tema. Los alumnos de quinto grado también finalizaron su unidad sobre la mentalidad de crecimiento con una lección acerca de ser únicos y especiales, acompañada de una actividad de repaso. Asimismo, se les ofreció la oportunidad de realizar una actividad extra para participar en el sorteo de un premio.

Los alumnos de sexto grado recibieron una lección sobre la «perseverancia» (Grit) como parte de su unidad sobre la mentalidad de crecimiento; además, se les recordó la necesidad de seguir esforzándose durante estos últimos meses y de dar lo mejor de sí mismos. En vista de los recientes cambios ocurridos en el sexto grado, realizamos un círculo restaurativo para dialogar sobre las transiciones, la responsabilidad y el pensamiento flexible, con el fin de ayudar a los alumnos a seguir adelante y tener un tercer trimestre exitoso.

Once again, St. Rose of Lima is partnering with the Women’s Care Center of York. Each student at St. Rose will receive one baby bottle. We are asking each student to fill that baby bottle with coins to help support the mission of the Women’s Care Center of York. Students may obtain additional baby bottles through the Main Office. Last day to turn in Baby Bottles is Friday, March 27, 2026!

April 1 - Summer Uniforms Begin

Our handbook states that we are in winter uniform until April 1, 2026. That is our first day of Easter Break, so summer uniforms will begin when we return from break on April 7, 2026.

Counselor’s Corner

What a crazy weather pattern it has been over the past few weeks! I think we even managed to see all four seasons in a 24-hour time span, and then a non-snow related early dismissal! Hopefully the rest of Spring is smooth sailing.

Like the weather, our classroom lessons have been all over the place and we've covered a wide range of topics. In Kindergarten, students have had lessons about how to be a good friend and about growth mindset with the story Beautiful Oops.

Mrs. Kipple’s class had their Friendship Soup lesson, and worked on how to handle the ups and downs of friendship with the story Rita and Ralph's Rotten Day . They also learned about thinking before they speak with a “Think it or Say it” social story and activity.

The second graders learned about manners with the story “Do Unto Otters,” and about what they can do when they have a bad day with the story, “Alexander’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.”

Mrs. Smith’s class had a lesson about how to be a good friend and made a poster about the “Keys to being a good friend.” Since it was Dr Seuss’s birthday recently, they watched The Zax and learned how to ‘Fight Fair’ using conflict resolution strategies. This week they read the story “Cee Cee Dee” and started a two-part lesson about making good decisions.

Fourth graders finished their unit about Growth Mindset with a lesson about Positive Thinking and Positive Self Talk, and a review activity to wrap things up. Fifth grade also finished up their Growth Mindset unit with a lesson about being Unique and special, and a review activity. They also were given the opportunity to complete a bonus activity to be entered into a drawing for a prize.

Sixth graders had a lesson about Grit as part of their Growth Mindset unit, but also a a reminder about the need to keep pushing through these last few months and giving their best effort. Given the recent changes in sixth grade, we had a restorative circle to discuss transitions, responsibility and flexible thinking to help the move forward and have a successful third trimester.

Excursión al Centro Appell

El miércoles 18 de marzo, nuestros alumnos de kínder a segundo grado realizarán una excursión al Centro Appell para ver "Sopa de Piedras... y Otros Cuentos". Basada en el libro de Ruth Foster y Carole Wechter, "Sopa de Piedras... y Otros Cuentos" es una encantadora y aderezada mezcla de cuentos populares de todo el mundo. Magia Prismática

El jueves 19 de marzo, Prismatic Magic estará en el campus para presentar su espectáculo de luces láser Spring Jam para todos los estudiantes. Spring Jam es una celebración de láseres, música y movimiento. Repleto de animaciones láser de actividades al aire libre como béisbol, natación y surf, con una banda sonora de música pop y rock enérgica que invita a cantar. Spring Jam busca promover la actividad física y el ejercicio cautivando a los niños con imágenes impactantes y melodías alegres durante todo el espectáculo.

Thanks to the St. Rose of Lima Council of the Knights of Columbus, all students are being treated to free ice cream! The Knights of Columbus are actively involved in our school community as volunteers. They organize the Basketball Shoot-Out and generously offer their time and talents to help with projects around our school.We are truly blessed to have them as partners and are grateful for their continued support of our students and school.

Field Trip to the Appell Center

On Wednesday, March 18, our students in grades K–2 will take a field trip to the Appell Center to see Stone Soup … and Other Stories . Based on the book by Ruth Foster and Carole Wechter, Stone Soup … and Other Stories is a charming, well-seasoned blend of folktales from around the world. The performance serves as an excellent springboard for reading, reading-related activities, and exploring multicultural themes.

On Thursday, March 19, Prismatic Magic will be on campus to perform their Spring Jam laser light show for all students. Spring Jam is a celebration of lasers, music, and motion. Packed with laser animations of outdoor activities like baseball, swimming, and surfing, set to a soundtrack of energetic pop and rock music that encourages singing along. Spring Jam aims to promote physical fitness and exercise by captivating children with stunning visuals and upbeat tunes throughout the show.

LOST and FOUND

Clothing and unmarked personal items left on the playground, in hallways, lobby, and other areas in the school will be placed in the Lost and Found. Parents can help alleviate the build-up of articles in the lost and found by marking your child’s name on all items, coats, sweats, jackets, lunchboxes, and other personal items. It is the responsibility of the parents to instruct their children to take care of all clothing and personal items. St. Rose of Lima assumes no responsibility for these items. Currently, we have a large number of items in our Lost and Found box at school. Please stop by to see if any of your items are in the box.

The virtue of honesty for children is a foundational character trait, involving truthfulness in words and actions, which fosters trust, integrity, and personal responsibility. Un emocionante artículo nuevo subastado en la Gala de este año fue "¡Evita la fila para ligar!". Este premio especial permite a la familia ganadora entrar al estacionamiento y hacer la fila primero, acompañar a su hijo/a a su auto primero y salir del estacionamiento antes de que se retiren los demás autos. ¡Qué manera tan divertida y práctica de apoyar a nuestra escuela! ¡Felicitaciones al Sr. y la Sra. McNulty! Esperamos que disfruten saltándose la fila y recibiendo un trato VIP al salir.

Conferencias de Prekínder

Nuestras conferencias de Prekínder se llevarán a cabo a través de Google Meet el 24 de febrero de 2026. Estén atentos a un correo electrónico del maestro de su hijo/a, así como a un enlace de registro de la Sra. High, que les permitirá elegir el horario que mejor se adapte a su horario. Estas conferencias son una oportunidad importante para que las familias conozcan mejor el progreso y el crecimiento de sus hijos/as. Animamos a todos los padres a participar. Práctica de Teatro

Nuestra primera práctica de teatro de St Rose Star Players se llevará a cabo el miercoles 18 de febrero de 2026 a las 15:15 h. Esta primera práctica será informativa. Esperamos ver a todos los estudiantes interesados en participar en nuestra producción de primavera.

El Rincón de la Consejera

¡Guau! ¡Ya estamos a mitad de febrero! Espero que todos estén bien abrigados.

Como continuación de nuestra lección sobre Buenas Decisiones, los alumnos de kínder y primer grado escucharon el cuento "El Desastre Informático de Arthur" y aprendieron sobre la importancia de la honestidad y de decir la verdad (incluso cuando es difícil). Esto nos llevará a nuestra siguiente lección, que se centrará en la amistad y las cualidades de un buen amigo.

Los alumnos de segundo grado también aprendieron sobre cómo tomar buenas decisiones y continuaron esta lección esta semana con una lección sobre la amistad con el cuento "El Pastel del Enemigo". Como continuación de su lección sobre Mentalidad de Crecimiento, la clase de la Sra. Smith aprendió sobre la importancia de practicar la perseverancia con un video de Rocket Kids y una actividad.

Los estudiantes de cuarto, quinto y sexto grado continuaron aprendiendo sobre cómo desarrollar una mentalidad de crecimiento a través de la atención plena y la práctica de permanecer en el presente para controlar los pensamientos acelerados y el estrés. También aprendieron sobre la perseverancia y la determinación, y su importancia para alcanzar el éxito tanto dentro como fuera de la escuela.

Beat the Pick Up Line

One exciting new item auctioned off at this year’s Gala was “Beat the Pick Up Line!” This special prize allows the winning family to enter the parking lot and line up first, have their child escorted to their car first, and exit the lot before all other cars are dismissed. What a fun and practical way to support our school! Congratulations to Mr and Mrs McNulty! We hope you enjoy skipping the line and experiencing VIP dismissal treatment.

Daddy/Daughter Dance is Here!

End of Trimester II

Trimester II will end on Friday, February 27, 2026. Please make sure your students have completed all work due and all homework, papers, and projects have been turned in to their teachers. If you are concerned about your child’s grades, please reach out to the teacher now, while there is still time to make changes. Trimester III, our final trimester of the school year, begins on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Prek Conferences

Our PreK conferences will be held via Google Meet on February 24, 2026. Please watch for an email from your child’s teacher, as well as a sign-up link from Mrs. High, which will allow you to choose a conference time that works best for your schedule. These conferences are an important opportunity for families to learn more about their child’s progress and growth. We strongly encourage all parents to participate. Thank you for your continued support.

Play Practice

Our first St Rose Star Players play practice will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 3:15 PM. This first practice will be informational. We look forward to seeing all students who are interested in taking part in our spring production.

Counselor’s Corner

Wow! How are we already half way through February?! I hope everyone is staying warm.

As follow-up to our Good Choices lesson, Kindergarten and First grade students listened to the story Arthur’s Computer Disaster and learned about the importance of Honesty and telling the truth (even when it’s difficult to do). This will lead into our next lesson, which will focus on the topic of friendship and the qualities of a good friend.

Second graders also learned about Making Good Choices, and followed up that lesson this week with a lesson on Friendship with the story, Enemy Pie . As a follow up to their Growth Mindset lesson, Mrs. Smith’s class learned about the importance of practicing Perseverance with a video by Rocket Kids and an activity.

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth grade students continued learning more about how to have a growth mindset by learning about Mindfulness and how to practice staying in the present moment to control racing thoughts and stress. Fourth and Fifth graders also learned about Grit and perseverance and how they are important for finding success both in and out of school.

The winter season is upon us. Please make sure your child has the appropriate outerwear for recess. Students should bring coats, gloves, and hats with them to school. Students should plan to go outside for recess each day. Additionally, remember that sweatshirts may only be worn with the gym uniform. Students must wear the royal blue St. Rose sweater with their daily winter/spring school uniform.

¡Ya llegó la época de inscripciones! La inscripción para las familias que ya forman parte de nuestra comunidad escolar comienza el viernes 16 de enero de 2026 y finaliza el viernes 30 de enero de 2026. La inscripción para nuevas familias comienza el domingo 1 de febrero de 2026. Se recomienda a todas las familias que actualmente asisten a la Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima y que planean regresar el próximo año escolar que se inscriban lo antes posible para asegurar el lugar de sus hijos. Abrígate bien

Ya llegó el invierno. Asegúrense de que sus hijos traigan la ropa de abrigo adecuada para el recreo. Los estudiantes deben traer abrigos, guantes y gorros a la escuela. Los estudiantes saldrán al patio durante el recreo todos los días. Además, recuerden que las sudaderas solo se pueden usar con el uniforme de gimnasia. Los estudiantes deben usar el suéter azul marino de St. Rose con su uniforme escolar diario de invierno/primavera.

¡Felicitaciones a Lincoln McGoldrick, alumno de sexto grado y ganador del concurso de ortografía de la Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima! Dress Down Day

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, we will hold a Box Tops Dress Down Day. The theme for this day is to wear your favorite comfy sweater or comfy winter clothing. All students are encouraged to participate in this event!

First Reconciliation/Holy Communion Classes Grades 3-6

Beginning Wednesday, January 14, 2026 , classes for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion will be offered for students in grades 3–6 . Classes will be taught by Mrs. Johnston and will meet each Wednesday from 3:30–4:30 PM , continuing through the end of April . These classes are only for students in grades 3–6 . Students in grade 2 will receive preparation during their regular religion class held during the school day.

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, St Rose of Lima Faculty and staff will compete in the Battle of the Buildings at York Catholic. Come out and cheer on our team! Our team color is purple - so find your purple gear. This is a fun-filled, action packed night! Also - send in those canned goods!! We need your help to collect the most canned goods in the Deanery!

Catholic Schools Week 2026

Catholic Schools Week will take place Sunday, January 25, 2026 through Friday, January 30, 2026 . A tentative schedule is provided for your convenience. We would love to welcome families to join us for several events throughout the week. If you plan to attend any events that are open to the public, please contact the school office at 717-792-0889 to RSVP. RSVPs will help us prepare accordingly, as some events have limited space due to room size. Catholic Schools Week is an exciting opportunity for our school community to celebrate our Catholic faith and stewardship. Concurso de tiro a canasta de los Caballeros de Colón

El lunes 12 de enero de 2026, representantes del Consejo de los Caballeros de Colón de Santa Rosa de Lima estarán en el campus para llevar a cabo la competición preliminar para estudiantes de 9 a 12 años durante sus clases de Educación Física. Los estudiantes que anoten el mayor número de canastas tendrán la oportunidad de representar a nuestra escuela a finales de enero. Los Caballeros de Colón se pondrán en contacto con los padres para brindarles más detalles.

Clases de Primera Reconciliación y Primera Comunión (3.º a 6.º grado)

A partir del miércoles 14 de enero de 2026, se ofrecerán clases de Primera Reconciliación y Primera Comunión para estudiantes de 3.º a 6.º grado. Las clases serán impartidas por la Sra. Johnston y se reunirán todos los miércoles de 3:30 a 4:30 p. m., hasta finales de abril. Estas clases son solo para estudiantes de 3.º a 6.º grado. Pruebas STAR

Los estudiantes de kínder a sexto grado son evaluados cada año mediante las pruebas STAR de lectura y matemáticas. TELÉFONOS CELULARES/DISPOSITIVOS ELECTRÓNICOS/AURICULARES

Está prohibido que los estudiantes lleven consigo teléfonos celulares y dispositivos electrónicos como relojes inteligentes, auriculares/AirPods, consolas de videojuegos, tabletas, reproductores de música, radios, láseres, punteros láser y computadoras portátiles que no sean de la Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima durante el horario escolar. Se espera que los estudiantes entreguen sus teléfonos celulares y dispositivos en la Oficina Principal al comienzo del día escolar. Ningún estudiante puede llevar un teléfono celular durante el día.

No está permitido llevar teléfonos celulares ni dispositivos electrónicos encima. No se permite usar auriculares, AirPods, audífonos, relojes inteligentes ni dispositivos similares durante el horario escolar sin la aprobación de la Administración. ENFERMEDADES

Los padres conocen mejor a sus hijos y deben considerar cuidadosamente la decisión de mantenerlos en casa si están enfermos; sin embargo, por el bien de los demás estudiantes y sus familias, su hijo/a no puede asistir a la escuela si presenta:

Una temperatura de 38 °C (100.4 °F) o más (temperatura oral) en las últimas 24 horas. NOTA: Los estudiantes deben estar sin fiebre durante 24 horas completas SIN medicación para poder regresar a la escuela.

Secreción nasal espesa que no puede controlar.

Una tos persistente que dificulte su desempeño en el aula o que interfiera con el proceso educativo de los demás estudiantes.

Una erupción cutánea de origen desconocido que no esté justificada por un certificado médico que indique que no es contagiosa, a discreción de la administración.

Más de un episodio de diarrea o deposiciones irregulares en las últimas 24 horas.

Vómitos en las últimas 24 horas.

Ojos rojos o rosados con picazón y secreción pegajosa o amarillenta, a menos que un médico haya certificado por escrito que no es contagioso.

Piojos: los estudiantes deben recibir tratamiento y estar libres de piojos vivos y liendres para poder regresar a la escuela.

El niño/a tiene CUALQUIER enfermedad contagiosa. Ejemplos, entre otros: COVID-19, conjuntivitis, varicela, eritema infeccioso, sarampión, rubéola, tos ferina, enfermedad de manos, pies y boca, etc.

Knights of Columbus Basketball Shootout

On Monday, January 12, 2026, representatives from the St Rose of Lima Knights of Columbus Council will be on campus to conduct the preliminary competition for students ages 9-12 during their Physical Education classes. Students who score the highest number of baskets will have the opportunity to represent our school later in January. Parents will be contacted by the Knights of Columbus with further details.

CELL PHONES/ELECTRONICS/EARBUDS

Cell phones and electronic devices such as smart watches, earbuds/airpods, gaming devices, tablets, music players, radios, lasers, laser pens, non-St. Rose of Lima Elementary School laptops are prohibited to be kept with the student during the school day. Students are expected to turn their cell phones and devices into the Main Office at the start of the school day. No student may carry a cell phone during the day.

Cell phones and devices are not permitted to be kept “on the person”. Earbuds, AirPods, headphones, smartwatches and the like are not to be worn during the school day without approval of the Administration. These items listed go against the school and Diocesan policy.

Consequences will be issued according to St. Rose of Lima Elementary School and will be confiscated and turned into the Main Office. The student’s parents must come into the Main Office to retrieve the confiscated cell phones or devices. St. Rose of Lima Elementary School is not responsible for loss or damage to any cell phone or electronic device.

During the school day, communication between parents and students must be conducted through the school office. Students are not to call, text, or email their parents. Students must come to the Main Office to contact their parents.

CLOSINGS AND DELAYS – WINTER WEATHER INFORMATION

Closings/Severe Weather During the School Day:

If your local school district closes before St. Rose of Lima Elementary School, please know that we will follow that school district’s schedule and your student will be placed on the bus unless you call the office and speak with someone to give parental approval for other arrangements. Please note that we do NOT send out alerts if school districts dismiss early since your school district should have a plan in place to notify families in their districts of a change to their schedules.

If St. Rose of Lima Elementary School closes early, we will notify you via a parent text alert and/or an email notification in addition to posting the information to all sources listed above. If St. Rose of Lima Elementary School dismisses before your local school district dismisses, you are responsible for picking up your student within 20 minutes of the St. Rose of Lima Elementary School dismissal time. As early dismissal times may vary, we will give clear pick-up times for students in the text and email notifications. (Example: Early dismissal is at 11:30 AM today. All students must be picked up by 11:50 AM). In order for our staff and faculty to also leave in a timely and safe manner, St. Rose of Lima Elementary School will not remain open beyond the pick-up time.

If your student is a private car rider, you may pick up your student at any time due to inclement weather conditions, as long as your student is picked up before the pick-up deadline sent out in the parent text alerts and email notifications.

ILLNESS

Parents know their children best and need to carefully weigh the decision to keep them home from school for illness; however, in the best interest of other students and families, your student cannot attend school if he/she has:

A temperature of 100.4 degrees or more (oral temperature) within the last 24 hours. NOTE: Students must be fever free for a full 24 hours WITHOUT medication to return to school.
Thick nasal mucous discharge that he/she is unable to maintain
A persistent cough that will hinder his/her ability to function within the classroom setting, or will impede the educational process for the other students in class.
An unidentified rash that is not explained by a doctor’s note as non-communicable at the discretion of administration.
Experienced more than one episode of diarrhea/irregular bowel activity in the past 24 hours.
Vomited within the past 24 hours.
Pink/red itchy eyes with sticky/yellowish discharge, unless the doctor has established in writing that it is not contagious.
Lice – students must be treated and be free of live lice and nits in order to return to school.
The child has ANY communicable disease. Examples, including but not limited to: COVID-19, pink eye, chicken pox, Fifths disease, measles, rubella, pertussis, hand-foot and mouth, etc.

This is a special time to reflect on kindness, gratitude, and the joy of being together. We are thankful for God’s many blessings upon our school community, and for the dedication of our staff and the wonderful support from our families.

Registration for Current Families

It’s that time of year again! Registration for current families begins on Monday, January 5, 2026 and runs through Friday, January 30, 2026. All current families who plan to return to St Rose of Lima Elementary are encouraged to register as soon as possible to reserve your spot for your children. Information about tuition and registration forms will be sent home with your child/children the week of January 5, 2026. We look forward to working with you and your children again next school year!!

As the weather begins to change, please make sure your child has the appropriate outerwear for recess. Students should bring jackets with them to school. Additionally, remember that sweatshirts may only be worn with the gym uniform. Students must wear the royal blue St. Rose sweater with their daily winter/spring school uniform.

Snow Days/Virtual Days

As the weather becomes more unsettled through the winter months, we run the risk of having time off. On days when students are not in attendance due to inclement weather, we will run Virtual Days where students will have work to complete and teachers will be available online to answer questions for students and give assistance with work. Each teacher will send an email to parents letting them know their specific office hours. If we are aware of the possibility of inclement weather, teachers will send work home with your child that can be completed independently by your child. There also may be work to be completed through the student’s Google Classroom. If you have any questions about our Virtual Day policy, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or to your child’s teacher.

Open House

On Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, St Rose of Lima will hold its annual Open House for prospective families. Come out and meet our incredible faculty and staff, visit our classrooms, talk with School Advisory Board members and current parents, and receive a tour of the school by a recent St Rose of Lima Alumni. Join us for lunch in the cafeteria and learn about all that St Rose of Lima has to offer students. We encourage our current families to invite friends and family to consider St Rose of Lima for their children.

During the month of December, students and faculty focused on the virtue of Generosity. Generosity is giving of yourself without counting the cost. Children can demonstrate generosity through acts like sharing their belongings, helping with chores, offering kindness and compliments, volunteering their time, or donating items like old clothes and toys. Modeling generous behavior is a key way to teach them, as is discussing the importance of giving and involving them in charitable activities like donating to a food drive or supporting a local cause. Concierto de Navidad y Exposición de Arte

Esperamos que las familias nos acompañen el miércoles 17 de diciembre de 2025 a las 18:00. Los estudiantes de kínder a tercer grado, la banda y el club de baile participarán en este concierto, y se exhibirán obras de arte de todos los grados. También habrá un ensayo general a las 13:15, al que podrán asistir abuelos y otros invitados. Celebración Navideña Escolar - 19 de diciembre

El viernes 19 de diciembre, nuestra Asociación de Padres y Maestros organizará nuestra celebración navideña anual para todos los estudiantes. Se anima a los estudiantes a venir a la escuela con sus pijamas navideñas, incluyendo zapatos y calcetines. Se servirá un desayuno continental y pizza para el almuerzo; los estudiantes que no deseen comer pizza deberán traer su propio almuerzo. Representación navideña y Misa para niños

La Iglesia de Santa Rosa de Lima celebrará una representación navideña y una Misa el 24 de diciembre de 2025 a las 4:00 p. m. Esta representación y Misa incluirán la narración de la historia de la Navidad, monaguillos, miembros del coro, personas que llevarán las ofrendas y lectores. Misa de Nochebuena

Los estudiantes que deseen servir como acólitos y lectores en la Misa de Nochebuena de las 4:00 p. m. deben comunicarse con la Sra. Johnston para inscribirse. Los padres pueden contactar a la Sra. Inscripción para familias actuales

Abrígate bien

Vengan a conocer a nuestro increíble profesorado y personal, visiten nuestras aulas, hablen con los miembros del Consejo Asesor Escolar y con padres de alumnos actuales, y disfruten de una visita guiada por la escuela a cargo de un exalumno de St. Rose of Lima. Christmas Concert and Art Show

We hope families will join us on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 6:00 PM. Students in grades K-3, band, and dance club will participate in this concert, with art displayed from all grade levels. There will also be a dress rehearsal at 1:15 PM, where grandparents and other guests may attend. If you have guests who will attend the 1:15 PM rehearsal, please call the school office at 717-792-0889 to RSVP. Weather and your car permitting, we ask that you please find space to park in the grass, as to not disrupt the flow of dismissal. We appreciate your consideration and cooperation in this matter.

School Christmas Celebration - December 19

On Friday, December 19, 2025, our Home and School Association will host our annual schoolwide Christmas Celebration for our students. Students are encouraged to wear their Christmas pajamas to school including shoes and socks. A continental breakfast and pizza lunch will be provided for all students; students who choose not to have pizza should pack their own lunch. Students should bring their water bottles and backpacks to school that day. This should be a fantastic way to kick off the Christmas holiday break!

Christmas Pageant and Children’s Mass

St Rose of Lima Church will hold a Christmas Pageant and Mass on December 24, 2025 at 4:00 PM. This pageant and mass will have parts for the Christmas Story, altar servers, choir members, gift bearers, and readers. There will be a mandatory practice on Saturday, December 20 at 10:00 AM at the church. If your child is interested in participating in this service, please call the office at 717-792-0889.

Christmas Eve Mass

Students who wish to serve as altar servers and lectors at the 4:00 PM Christmas Eve Mass should see Mrs Johnston to register for a spot. Parents may contact Mrs Johnston via email or call the Main Office at 717-792-0889. There is room for two lectors, six altar servers, and four gift bearers.

El Rincón de la Consejera

Espero que todos hayan tenido unas maravillosas vacaciones de Acción de Gracias. ¡No sé cómo estamos ya en diciembre! Ahora que hemos tenido clases en kínder y primer grado sobre sentimientos, los alumnos están empezando a aprender sobre las Zonas de Regulación. Esto les da otra forma de expresar cómo se sienten, especialmente cuando no tienen todo el vocabulario emocional necesario para explicar sus sentimientos con precisión. Nuestra próxima clase cubrirá estrategias de afrontamiento que pueden practicar para ayudarles a volver a la "Zona Verde" y sentirse tranquilos, felices y listos para aprender. Segundo grado también repasó las Zonas de Regulación e hizo una actividad de Gratitud como preparación para el Día de Acción de Gracias. Segundo grado también pasará a una lección sobre estrategias de afrontamiento para las diferentes Zonas antes de las vacaciones de Navidad. Esto puede ser especialmente útil en esta época del año, ya que los niños también pueden encontrarla llena de emociones intensas.

Los alumnos de la Sra. Smith terminaron su lección de dos partes sobre la perspectiva y por qué es importante para nuestras amistades y relaciones comprender que cada persona ve las cosas desde una perspectiva o punto de vista diferente.

Los alumnos de cuarto, quinto y sexto grado recibieron lecciones sobre la gratitud. Los alumnos de la Sra. Yinger vieron este video sobre la gratitud y escribieron una carta de agradecimiento a la persona que eligieron. La clase del Sr. Eyster vio este video sobre la gratitud y realizó una actividad, y la clase de la Sra. Locke leyó un artículo sobre la ciencia de la gratitud y realizó una actividad sobre la gratitud.

Esta fue una semana corta, pero los alumnos de cuarto y quinto grado recibieron una lección de orientación sobre el estrés. Los alumnos aprendieron qué es el estrés y cómo puede afectar al cuerpo. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I’m not sure how we are already in December!! Now that we have had lessons in Kindergarten and First grade about feelings, the students are beginning to learn about the Zones of Regulation . This gives students another way to express how they are feeling, especially when they don’t have the full feelings vocabulary necessary to explain their feeling accurately. Our next class lesson will cover coping strategies they can practice using to help them get back to the “Green Zone” to feel calm, happy, and ready to learn. Second grade also reviewed the Zones of Regulation and did a Gratitude activity in preparation for Thanksgiving. Second grade will also be moving into a lesson about coping strategies for the different Zones before we leave for Christmas break. This can be especially helpful this time of year as children may also find it to be a time filled with a lot of big emotions.

Mrs. Smith’s students finished their two-part lesson about perspective, and why it’s important to our friendships and relationships to understand that everyone sees things from a different perspective or point of view.

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth graders all had lessons about gratitude. Mrs. Yinger’s students watched this video about gratitude and wrote a thank you letter to the person of their choosing. Mr. Eyster’s class watched this Gratitude video and completed an activity, and Mrs. Locke’s class read an article about the Science of Gratitude and completed a gratitude activity.

This was a short week, but fourth and fifth grades had a Guidance lesson about Stress. The students learned what stress is and how it can affect the body. Mrs. Yinger’s class watched this video about Understanding Stress and completed an activity to evaluate their own worries and stressors. Mrs Eyster’s students watched this video about Stress and also completed a self-assessment to help them better understand how stress impacts them. Our next lesson before the break will focus on strategies to manage stress.

School Supply Collection for Christ Our King School in Nigeria

During the months of November and December , our school will be collecting school supplies — pencils, erasers, pens, glue sticks, paper, notebooks, backpacks, and more — for Christ Our King Primary School in Nigeria. This school holds a special place in our hearts , as our Pastor, Fr. Celestine , once attended there. We are excited to support these students by sending supplies they can use to learn and grow. Once all the donations are collected, we will pack and ship them to Christ Our King Primary School — along with handwritten notes from our students wishing them a very Merry Christmas . It is our hope that the students at Christ Our King will write back to our students, helping to create lasting pen pal friendships and connections across the world! Thank you for your generosity and support in making this project a success!

Stewardship is based on the idea that all we have and all we are comes from God. Día de Observación en York Catholic para Sexto Grado

El miércoles 19 de noviembre, nuestros alumnos de sexto grado pasarán el día en York Catholic para una visita de observación. Los padres deberían haber recibido información de York Catholic sobre este emocionante día.

Fin del primer trimestre

El primer trimestre del año escolar finalizará el viernes 14 de noviembre de 2025. Se anima a los estudiantes a entregar las tareas pendientes y recuperar los exámenes o trabajos atrasados antes de esa fecha. Las boletas de calificaciones se distribuirán el viernes 21 de noviembre de 2025, al finalizar la jornada escolar, para que los estudiantes las lleven a casa. ¡Gracias por su continuo apoyo para que nuestros estudiantes terminen el trimestre con éxito!

Capacitación VIRTUS/Capacitación en Ambiente Seguro

La Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima está en su cuatro año del programa de capacitación VIRTUS/Ambiente Seguro. El programa diocesano de Ambiente Seguro ofrece instrucción sobre seguridad personal, adaptada a la edad, a los estudiantes de escuelas católicas y programas de educación religiosa parroquiales para estudiantes de kínder a sexto grado. La Diócesis de Harrisburg utiliza la capacitación anual VIRTUS Empowering God’s Children® para todos los niños inscritos en nuestras escuelas católicas y clases de educación religiosa. Hoy, los padres están recibiendo información sobre este programa, incluyendo un formulario de exclusión voluntaria que deben firmar y entregar en la escuela antes del viernes 14 de noviembre de 2025, únicamente si deciden que su hijo/a NO participe en este programa. Si no firman y entregan el formulario, su hijo/a recibirá la capacitación. La capacitación comenzará la semana del 17 de noviembre de 2025. Invitamos a todas las familias a que inviten a sus amigos y vecinos a conocer las maravillosas actividades que se realizan en la Escuela Primaria St. Rose of Lima. Habrá visitas guiadas por estudiantes, tiempo para hablar con un miembro de nuestra Junta Escolar y tiempo para visitar nuestras aulas.

Recaudación de útiles escolares para la Escuela Cristo Rey en Nigeria

Durante los meses de noviembre y diciembre, nuestra escuela recolectará útiles escolares —lápices, gomas de borrar, bolígrafos, pegamento, papel, cuadernos, mochilas y más— para la Escuela Primaria Cristo Rey en Nigeria. Esta escuela ocupa un lugar especial en nuestros corazones, ya que nuestro párroco, el Padre Celestine, fue alumno de ella. Nos entusiasma apoyar a estos estudiantes enviándoles útiles que puedan usar para aprender y crecer. Una vez recolectadas todas las donaciones, las empaquetaremos y enviaremos a la Escuela Primaria Cristo Rey, junto con notas escritas a mano de nuestros alumnos deseándoles una muy Feliz Navidad. ¡Esperamos que los alumnos de Cristo Rey respondan a nuestros estudiantes, ayudando así a crear amistades y conexiones duraderas a través de la correspondencia en todo el mundo! ¡Gracias por su generosidad y apoyo para que este proyecto sea un éxito!

VIRTUS Training/Safe Environment Training

St Rose of Lima Elementary School is now in year four of our VIRTUS training/Safe Environment program. The Diocesan Safe Environment program offers age-appropriate personal safety instruction to students in Catholic schools and parish religious education programs for students in grades K - 6. The Diocese of Harrisburg uses the VIRTUS Empowering God’s Children® annual training for all children enrolled in our Catholic Schools and religious education classes. Today, parents are being given information about this program, including an”opt-out” that must be signed and returned to the school by Friday, November 14, 2025 only if you choose NOT to have your child participate in this program . If you do not sign and return the form, your child will receive the training. The training will begin the week of November 17, 2025. If you have questions about this program, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Johnston at 717-792-0889.

Discover Catholic Schools Week

During the week of November 17 through November 21, St Rose of Lima Elementary School will celebrate Discover Catholic Schools Week. The following events will take place at our school:

Monday, November 17 - Catholic Community Service Day - students in grades K-6 will be working to pack potatoes for the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. Additionally, they will work on activities that will enhance the virtue of stewardship.
Tuesday, November 18 - Open House from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM for current and prospective familie s . We encourage all families to invite friends and neighbors to come see the wonderful things that are happening at St Rose of Lima Elementary School. There will be student led tours, time to speak with a member of our School Board, and time to stop into our classrooms.
Wednesday, November 19 - PreK Story Day from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM - come in and visit our PreK classes for story time and an activity led by our PreK teachers. This is for current and prospective families. All guests must register by phone at the school office by calling 717-792-0889 by Monday, November 17.
Thursday, November 20 - Open House from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM for current and prospective families. Jueves 20 de noviembre: Jornada de Puertas Abiertas de 9:00 a 11:00 h, exclusiva para familias interesadas. Invitamos a todas las familias a que inviten a amigos y vecinos a conocer las maravillosas actividades que se realizan en la Escuela Primaria Santa Rosa de Lima. Habrá recorridos guiados por los alumnos, tiempo para hablar con un miembro de la Junta Escolar y tiempo para visitar nuestras aulas.
Viernes 21 de noviembre: Misa Escolar y Entrega de Premios a la Virtud a las 8:30 h. Invitamos a los miembros de la comunidad de Santa Rosa de Lima a unirse a nosotros en la celebración de la misa. Habrá actividades para los alumnos por la tarde.

Muro de los Héroes del Día de los Veteranos

Un año más, la Escuela Santa Rosa de Lima rinde homenaje a nuestros héroes recopilando fotografías de familiares que han servido en las fuerzas armadas para nuestro Muro de los Héroes del Día de los Veteranos. Si desea participar, envíe una fotocopia de la fotografía de su familiar, junto con la siguiente información:

Su nombre
Su parentesco con su familia o estudiante
Su rama militar

Tenga en cuenta que las fotocopias no se devolverán, por lo que le pedimos que no envíe fotografías originales. Estamos profundamente agradecidos a todos los valientes hombres y mujeres de nuestra comunidad de Santa Rosa de Lima que se han dedicado a servir a nuestro país. Gracias por ayudarnos a honrarlos de esta manera tan especial.

Counselor’s Corner

Al finalizar octubre y comenzar noviembre, hemos abarcado una amplia gama de temas en nuestras clases. En kínder y primer grado, los alumnos escucharon cuentos sobre experimentar diferentes emociones y cómo podemos interpretar los sentimientos de los demás a través de su lenguaje corporal y expresiones faciales. Los niños de kínder leyeron "Un poquito de sentimientos: Detective de emociones" y escucharon "Todos nuestros sentimientos están bien". La clase de la Sra. Kipple escuchó el cuento "Cómo me siento" y realizó una actividad con caras que expresan emociones.

En segundo grado, concluimos el tema del acoso escolar con una actividad que explicaba las diferencias entre la grosería, la crueldad y el acoso. Los alumnos de la Sra. Smith comenzaron una lección en dos partes sobre la empatía para comprender y desenvolverse en las amistades y relaciones con los demás.

Los alumnos de cuarto y quinto grado aprendieron sobre la empatía y cómo practicarla. Hablamos sobre la importancia de esta habilidad para que se relacionen mejor con los demás.

Finalmente, los alumnos de sexto grado terminaron sus lecciones sobre funciones ejecutivas con un video y una actividad sobre organización. Luego, impartimos una lección sobre acoso escolar y ciberacoso para concluir el Mes Nacional de la Prevención del Acoso Escolar. As the weather begins to change and students begin wearing sweaters and sweatshirts, our Lost and Found box begins to fill up. The Lost and Found box is also filling up with lunchboxes and water bottles. We ask that you please label your children’s belongings so that we are able to identify items left behind and get them back to their rightful owners.

VIRTUS Training/Safe Environment Training

St Rose of Lima Elementary School is now in year three of our VIRTUS training/Safe Environment program. The Diocesan Safe Environment program offers age-appropriate personal safety instruction to students in Catholic schools and parish religious education programs for students in grades K - 6. The Diocese of Harrisburg uses the VIRTUS Empowering God’s Children® annual training for all children enrolled in our Catholic Schools and religious education classes. Today, parents are being given information about this program, including an”opt-out” that must be signed and returned to the school by Friday, November 14, 2025 only if you choose NOT to have your child participate in this program . If you do not sign and return the form, your child will receive the training . If you have questions about this program, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Johnston at 717-792-0889.

Discover Catholic Schools Week

During the week of November 17 through November 21, St Rose of Lima Elementary School will celebrate Discover Catholic Schools Week. The following events will take place at our school:

Monday, November 17 - Catholic Identity Day - students in grades K-6 will be working to pack potatoes for the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. Additionally, they will work on activities that will enhance their Catholic Identity.
Tuesday, November 18 - Open House from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM for prospective families only . We encourage all families to invite friends and neighbors to come see the wonderful things that are happening at St Rose of Lima Elementary School. There will be student led tours, time to speak with a member of our School Board, and time to stop into our classrooms.
Wednesday, November 19 - PreK Story Day from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM - come in and visit our PreK classes for story time and an activity led by our PreK teachers. All guests must register by phone at the school office by calling 717-792-0889 by Monday, November 17.
Thursday, November 20 - Open House from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM for prospective families only. We encourage all families to invite friends and neighbors to come see the wonderful things that are happening at St Rose of Lima Elementary School. Veterans’ Day Wall of Heroes

Once again, St. Rose of Lima School is honoring our heroes by collecting pictures of family members who have served in the armed forces for our Veterans Day Wall of Heroes display. If you would like to participate, please send in a photocopied picture of your family member, along with the following information:

Their name
Their relationship to your family or student
Their branch of service

Please note that photocopies will not be returned, so we ask that you do not send original photos. We are deeply grateful to all the brave men and women in our St. Rose of Lima community who have dedicated themselves to serving our country. Thank you for helping us honor them in this special way.

Counselor’s Corner

As we wrapped up October, and are now heading into November, we have been covering a wide range of topics in our class lessons. In Kindergarten and First grade, students listened to stories about having a lot of different feelings, and how we can tell how someone else might be feeling by reading their body language and facial expressions. Kindergarteners read A Little Spot of Feelings: Emotion Detective, and listened to All Our Feelings are Okay . Mrs. Kipple’s class listened to the story The Way I Feel and did an activity with feeling faces.

In Second grade, we wrapped up Bullying with an activity that explained the differences among Rude, Mean, and Bullying behaviors. Mrs. Smith’s students started a two-part lesson about Perspective Taking to try and understand and navigate friendships and relationships with others.

Fourth and Fifth grade students learned about Empathy and ways to practice having empathy for others. We discussed why this is an important skill to help them get along better with others.

Finally, Sixth graders finished up their Executive Function lessons with an Organization video and activity. Then we followed that with a lesson about Bullying and Cyberbullying to finish out National Bullying Prevention month. Please refer to my last Counselor’s Column for additional information about Bullying.
